John founded HMS Global Maritime after serving as Director of Marine Operations for Hornblower Dining Yachts, a fleet of 29 dinner cruise vessels.
John has been actively involved in the passenger vessel industry for over 30 years. He began his career in the sport fishing industry, and has since been involved in many and varied segments of the industry including commercial fishing, offshore oil support vessels, dinner cruise and excursion vessels, casino boats, car and passenger ferry operations and overnight passenger vessels.
John’s continuing dedication to safety and furthering the development of marine transportation has placed him at the forefront of the industry. He was awarded a Commendation from the Commandment of the U.S. Coast Guard for his substantial and lasting contribution to promoting passenger vessel safety.
He received a Master of Business Administration in June of 1989 and a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology in June of 1979 from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA. He was nominated outstanding MBA of the year, and selected by his peers as the MBA with the highest stress tolerance, a highly appropriate personality trait in the marine industry.
As President and CEO of HMS Global Maritime and Chairman and CEO of American Queen Steamboat Company, John still lives his childhood dream of “playing with boats the rest of his life, so he would never have to grow up and get a real job.”
Paul “Chip” Jaenichen
COO, HMS Global Maritime
After a decorated career with the U.S. Navy and the Maritime Administration (MARAD), Jaenichen joined HMS Global Maritime on January 12, 2017. In his role as COO, Captain Jaenichen will be responsible for ensuring that HMS Global Maritime excels in every facet of transportation, safety and security, and mechanical operations, as well as ensuring that the company continues to produce industry leading financial results while bringing new ideas and ways of doing business that improve satisfaction and team member involvement.
Prior to joining HMS Global Maritime, Captain Jaenichen was appointed by President Obama and served as Maritime Administrator since July 2014. He previously served as both Deputy and Acting Maritime Administrator from 2012 to 2014. Captain Jaenichen was a career naval officer, who retired after 30 years as a nuclear trained Submarine Officer in the U.S. Navy. His final assignment was as Deputy Chief of Legislative Affairs for the Department of the Navy from 2010 to 2012.
President & COO, HMS Ferries
As President of HMS Ferries Inc., Greg has overall responsibility for management and operation of HMS Global Maritime’s domestic and international ferry operations.
Greg is an engineering graduate of the California Maritime Academy. He sailed in licensed positions on commercial vessels in both the deck and engineering departments before progressing through senior and executive management positions ashore. Notably, Greg served as Vice President and General Manager of Ketchikan Shipyard, Director of the Alaska Marine Highway System, President and CEO of Glacier Bay Cruiseline and President of Pacific Navigation Company. In 2004, Greg joined Hornblower Marine Services as the Vice President of West Coast Operations.
President & COO, Seaward Services
As President & COO of Seaward Services, Bill heads up the government services division of HMS Global Maritime. He oversees and manages all contracts that involve the federal government including the Department of Defense and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Bill has over 30 years of maritime industry experience. He began his career as a deckhand with a ferry company and received his U.S. Coast Guard Master’s license at the age of 21. Bill has managed marine operations for a fleet of nine vessels and has also owned and operated his own river cruise company. Since joining Hornblower Marine Services in 1995, Bill has managed and overseen many ferry operations and is now leading Seaward Services, Inc.
President, HMS Consulting & Technical
As President of HMS Consulting & Technical, John is responsible for the management of all technical, regulatory and business consulting activities. He also provides project management support for internal technical and business development initiatives within HMS Global Maritime operations.
John is a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and has completed additional studies in project management. He has over 20 years of experience in the maritime industry, including deep sea, offshore, towing, general cargo and operational management roles in the passenger vessel sector. John joined Hornblower Marine Services in 2006 as the General Manager of HMS-PacNav.
President & COO, American Queen Steamboat Company
Ted has over 20 years of experience in the travel industry. Prior to joining American Queen Steamboat Company, he served as CEO of eWaterways, an online aggregator of small-ship cruises from around the world. In addition, he has served as President and CFO for Viking, the largest river cruise operator in the world. He has also been COO and CFO of the Vantage Group, the Boston based direct seller of travel and operator of European river boats. Serving as CEO from conception through full operation, Ted moved to England and launched the Saga Group’s entry into deep sea cruising. Prior to Saga, Ted served as CFO and Managing Director of Royal Cruise Line, operating four cruise vessels (2,500 beds) in the premium sector.
Before entering the travel industry, Ted was a senior partner with Young & Rubicam, Inc., and had advanced through management consulting and financial roles in industry. He holds a BBA-Finance from the University of Wisconsin and is a certified management accountant.
General Counsel, HMS Global Maritime
Since September of 2011, Bob has served HMS Global Maritime as General Counsel. He is a 35 year veteran of the marine transportation industry with deep experience in the fields of vessel operations, shipbuilding and maritime law. Prior to HMS Global Maritime, Bob served as Senior Vice-President and General Counsel for The Vane Brothers Companies, an 85 vessel petroleum transportation company operating on the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts. Bob’s shipbuilding career included 15 years with Jeffboat where he began as an Engineering Manager and ascended to the role of President, and five years as the President of Manitowoc’s (MTW) 1,800 employee shipbuilding division on the Great Lakes where he ultimately took the group through a stock sale to an Italian shipbuilding conglomerate.
Bob began his maritime career with a tug-barge operating company as a Marine Engineer and ultimately ran vessel operations. Bob holds a U.S. Coast Guard license as a Chief Engineer and is admitted to the practice of law in Kentucky and U.S. District Courts. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, MBA from Xavier University and JD from the University of Louisville.
