About the Client:

Pierce County is the second largest county (based on population) in Washington State. The County has two municipal airports, bus transit system, ferry system, emergency services system and the entire infrastructure needed for such a large populace. The ferry service began in 1922, and the County took over ferry services in 1938. Ferry service is year round and serves Anderson & Ketron Islands from Steilacoom, which is located on the southern Puget Sound.

Scope of Service:

The Puget Sound is an important industrial waterway under international waters regulations. The Port of Tacoma, which is just a few miles to the east of our location, is the sixth largest port in the USA and # 25 worldwide. The Pierce County Ferry system provides the only access to the island for all goods and services, including fuel. The vessels operate 365 days a year with a longer service day on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and all holidays. Typically, each boat will run two weeks on, two weeks off. Two boat services are offered on the busiest holidays of the year to reduce/eliminate multiple hour wait times for an available sailing.

Strategic Partnership

Pierce County and HMSGM have an extremely close working relationship. This helps to optimize total cost efficiency of the operation. Not only does HMSGM manage all day to day operations of vessels and facilities, but are asked to attend all meetings regarding budgets, future improvements and other City of Steilacoom concerns. The Pierce County Ferry and Airports Administrator have openly offered (and have been used) as a reference for anyone with interest in contracting HMSGM.
